4-Year-Old Boy Injured in Self-Inflicted Gunshot in Parking Lot, California Mom Faces Multiple Charges in Sacramento

Sacramento, CA– A California mother has been arrested and charged after her 4-year-old son accidentally shot himself earlier this week.

It is reported that 26-year-old Latisha Walker was taken into custody following an incident where her son accidentally shot himself with a firearm at approximately 1:45 p.m. on the 4500 block of Mack Road on Friday, Oct. 25.

Walker’s bail has been established at $75,000, and she is currently confronting three felony charges: possessing a concealed firearm in a vehicle, criminal storage of a firearm, and endangering a child’s life.

Walker was released on Saturday, Oct. 26, as indicated by her custody status on the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office inmate webpage.

A shooting occurred inside a car in a parking lot. The report indicated that the child is anticipated to recover following transport to a nearby hospital.

According to multiple witnesses, Walker was present inside a business during the shooting.

The customers in adjacent shops heard the child calling for assistance. A 19-year-old named Shynice Cordoba, who was present in a nail salon, shared with the outlet that although she did not hear a gunshot, she did hear a mother screaming along with a “noise.”

“I go outside, he’s just laying on the floor,” said Cordoba. “I need something to put pressure on his wound. .. I get the tissue and I put it on his wound. He was talking to me and I was talking to him, he was really scared.”

“He kept saying he shot himself, he shot himself. So I was like, ‘It’s okay you’re not in trouble. It’s fine,’ ” she continued.

Cordoba added: “He wanted me to pick him up. But I had to reassure him and tell him, no, you can’t get up. You have to stay here. And we talked about Paw Patrol and how old he was and stuff. Until they got here.”

A police spokesperson informed that the child received medical assistance at the scene prior to being transported to the hospital.

As per reports, the first responder applied pressure to the wound and assisted in keeping him on his side.

Officer Anthony Gamble from the Sacramento Police Department informed that the shooting is currently being investigated, with officers examining how the boy obtained the firearm.

Walker is set to appear in court for the first time on Wednesday, Oct. 31.
