A father faces charges following the death of his 2-year-old son, allegedly at the hands of his girlfriend in Fayette County.
Brett Bissett is facing several charges, as stated in court documents, which include tampering with evidence, obstructing law enforcement, and hindering apprehension.
On Friday, Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele revealed that Brianna Bloyer, 30, the girlfriend of Bissett, has been charged with homicide in connection with the death of 2-year-old Bentlee Myers. Aubele indicated that additional charges were anticipated.
The District Attorney reported that Myers passed away due to “severe physical trauma” inflicted by Bloyer at a residence on Old Lake Lynn Road in Springhill Township in August.
Authorities reported that the child was transported to the hospital on August 16 after an individual arrived at Bloyer’s residence and discovered the toddler unresponsive, with bruises and a blue complexion. A witness informed the authorities that Bloyer failed to dial 911, despite the fact that the 2-year-old seemed unresponsive.
Doctors at the hospital found multiple bruises and internal injuries, according to police. Authorities reported that he was pronounced brain dead and passed away on August 19, with medical professionals attributing his death to cardiac arrest resulting from head trauma.
During the police interview, Bloyer mentioned that the boy had been with her for approximately two weeks. She reported that when she woke the boy on the morning of August 16, he was unsteady and subsequently fell down.
During the police interview, Bissett claimed he was unaware of how his son sustained the injuries and noted that he first saw the bruises at the hospital. He mentioned that he had observed Bloyer feeling stressed and frustrated with the toddler in the past.
Fayette County has reported its second case in two weeks of a child suffering severe abuse that led to death. Emmanuel Dennis and Celia Nunn faced charges last month in connection with the death of Margaret Nunn.
Aubele stated that situations like this are unacceptable to him and Fayette County.
“Unfortunately, you know, we can’t be inside the house with somebody at all times, but I can assure the public that we are going to provide the two things that we can, which is investigation and consequence,” Aubele told KDKA-TV on Friday.
Bloyer and Bissett have been denied bail and are currently held in the Fayette County Jail.
