2 children injured and a woman killed in a Bronx shooting
In a tragic incident in the Bronx, a woman was killed and two men were injured in a drive-by shooting. The attack occurred in the Port Morris section, where a white BMW drove down East 137th Street towards Cypress Avenue around 4 p.m., and shots were fired from the car.
Gloria Ortiz, 39, was fatally shot in the head and pronounced dead at NYC Health + Hospitals Lincoln. The two injured men, aged 23 and 32, were hit in the back but are in stable condition.
It has been noted that one of the injured men is a known gang member, though it’s unclear if he was the intended target of the shooting. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
Another incident in the Bronx saw two women gunned down in the afternoon, with one of the victims, a 71-year-old woman, succumbing to her wounds. The shooting unfolded outside of 512 138 Street, leading to multiple 911 calls.
The victims, the other being a 34-year-old woman shot in the arm, were quickly taken to Lincoln Hospital. Despite efforts, the older woman was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Police are searching for a suspect described as wearing all black with dreadlocks.
Surveillance footage from the area captured a woman falling to the ground and a man fleeing the scene. Witnesses reported hearing several shots and seeing people running for safety.
The investigation suggests that the women were not the intended targets of the shooting, which left the community in shock and mourning the senseless loss of life
