Authorities in Illinois report that a 19-year-old woman is facing allegations of disposing of her deceased baby’s remains in a trash can.
The local police department reported that the woman delivered her baby on August 25, but unfortunately, the infant passed away shortly after birth.
Authorities initiated their investigation on August 29 after receiving reports that the woman had thrown the remains in the garbage, as stated in a release dated November 22. Authorities have not disclosed the timeline regarding the disposal of the remains.
Authorities reported that their search for the remains yielded no results. Investigators suggest that the mother may have hidden the passing of her newborn.
According to police, the absence of the infant’s remains prevents the medical examiner’s office from establishing the cause and manner of death.
A mother faces felony charges for concealing a death and was taken into custody on November 19, according to police reports.
A 43-year-old woman residing in the same household as the 19-year-old has been charged with concealing a death, as reported by the Chicago Tribune.
Evanston is located approximately 15 miles north of Chicago.
