KANSAS CITY, Mo. – An 18-year-old student was arrested Friday morning after being found in possession of a loaded firearm inside a Park Hill school, according to officials with the Platte County Sheriff’s Office.

Firearm Discovered Inside LEAD Innovation Studio

Authorities say the incident occurred around 11 a.m. on November 21 at the LEAD Innovation Studio, part of the Park Hill School District. A school staff member alerted a School Resource Officer (SRO) after learning that a student might have a weapon on campus.

The officer and school administrators immediately located the student and escorted him to the main office. A loaded pistol was later found concealed inside his backpack, officials said.

The student, whose name has not been released, was arrested and transported to the Platte County Detention Center, where he is being held on a 24-hour investigative hold while prosecutors determine formal charges.

No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported during the incident.

In a statement, Platte County Sheriff Erik Holland commended both students and staff for acting quickly:

“Because someone was brave enough to come forward with information that a weapon was in the school today, our SRO Deputy and school administration were able to act quickly and remove a threat to the safety of the entire school,” Holland said. “I commend everyone involved for their work today.”
