Pittsburgh, PA: A Pittsburgh Public Schools student has been charged with assaulting four teachers.
“It is concerning to witness a teacher being subjected to a violent attack,” expressed Ken Trump, the president of National School Safety and Security Services.
According to investigators, the incident took place within Oliver Citywide Academy’s satellite school at Greenway Middle School. New charges were recently filed against 18-year-old Gvawn Rembert-Leonard on Tuesday.
Based on the criminal complaint, Rembert-Leonard was overheard discussing fentanyl and cocaine during a phone conversation. The documents claim that when he was requested to end the call, he forcefully grabbed the teacher and flung them across the room.
The 18-year-old insisted on having his phone back, resulting in him kicking the cabinet it was locked in. According to witnesses, he engaged in a physical altercation with another educator, forcefully restraining them.
According to school staff, after receiving his phone back, he physically assaulted the teacher who returned it and promptly departed. After exiting the building, the staff reported that he physically assaulted another educator. Trump expressed his concern about the incident.
“It is concerning to witness the intense reactions of our youth when confronted with the prospect of losing their cell phones. However, the alarming display of aggression and violence, necessitating the intervention of multiple staff members to subdue a student who is causing harm, raises important questions about the underlying factors contributing to such behavior.”
