Tragedy struck on Friday afternoon when a young girl lost her life in a car accident. According to state police, the 17-year-old driver veered off the interstate and collided with multiple trees.
The ambulance rushed the driver, identified as Lillianna Cawthron of Londonderry, to Elliott Hospital in Manchester. State police reported that the injuries were life-threatening. Unfortunately, she passed away at the hospital.
State troopers were dispatched to a crash near mile marker 14 on Interstate 93 southbound at 2:47 p.m. on Friday.
Upon the arrival of troopers and subsequent discussions with witnesses, it was concluded that a gray 2008 Mercury Milan veered off the interstate to the right-hand side and collided with multiple trees while traveling southbound.
Footage captured at the scene reveals the car entangled amidst a cluster of trees.
According to state police, the interstate was temporarily closed as fire crews worked to rescue the driver from the vehicle.
State Police received assistance from Londonderry Police and Fire as well as the New Hampshire Department of Transportation at the scene.
Investigators remained on the scene for about four hours, resulting in traffic being restricted to two travel lanes.
