A Mandeville resident has received a sentence following his guilty plea in a case involving the sexual assault of a young girl.
A 49-year-old man named Colby Shane Maye has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges of second-degree rape and sexual battery, according to the Office of District Attorney Collin Sims.
In 2022, the district attorney’s office disclosed that a 16-year-old victim bravely confided in a trusted adult about a past sexual assault.
According to court documents, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office was notified and an interview was arranged. According to the district attorney’s office, the victim revealed to investigators during the interview that she had experienced multiple instances of sexual assault by Maye over a period of several years. The victim disclosed to investigators that the sexual abuse ceased when she reached the age of 14.

Maye was discovered at a hospital and subsequently apprehended, as stated in court documents.
According to the district attorney’s office, Maye stated that he did not agree with the victim’s accusations during an interview with detectives.
Maye received a 25-year prison sentence without parole and will be obligated to register as a sex offender.
