16-year-old Pregnant Teen Found Dead Near Her House in Georgia; Boyfriend Arrested for Homicide

A 20-year-old man from Georgia has been taken into custody in relation to the tragic incident involving his 16-year-old ex-girlfriend. Her family found her lifeless body in a wooded area near their residence on Monday morning.

Jesus Monroy was arrested on Wednesday and is facing charges of providing false information to a police officer in connection with the investigation into the murder of Mia Campos, according to records reviewed by Law&Crime.

A news release from the Gwinnett County Police Department states that officers were dispatched to a 911 call in Loganville, Georgia, around 1 a.m. on Monday, July 15. The incident occurred in the vicinity of the 3600 block of Stephens Road, approximately 30 miles east of Atlanta. The police have reported that Mia’s family members were the ones who found her body and immediately contacted emergency services.

The family informed authorities that Mia had departed from their residence the previous evening accompanied by an individual whose identity remains unknown. After Mia failed to return home, her family utilized a location app to trace her cellphone, ultimately leading them to discover her remains.

“According to the information found at the scene, investigators were unable to determine the cause of (Mia) Campos’ death,” stated the police in their release. Investigators from various departments were dispatched to the scene to gather evidence and interview witnesses. The medical examiner has concluded that Mia Campos’ death was a homicide after completing the autopsy on July 16.

Authorities apprehended a suspect in the case on Wednesday. According to the release, investigators have apprehended Monroy, who is said to be Mia’s former boyfriend, for providing false statements to a police officer. According to Atlanta CBS affiliate WANF, authorities have indicated that Monroy is not the sole suspect under investigation.

Mia’s family has confirmed to WANF that Monroy is the father of the pregnant teenager’s child. They also shared the heartbreaking details of the moment they discovered her body.

Her father, Edward Campos, recounted the heartbreaking discovery of finding his daughter lying face down. It was challenging. There was clearly something amiss – her lips, her bleeding nose. My baby was tragically killed.

Edward Campos expressed his confidence in the police’s ability to uncover the truth about his daughter’s disappearance, stating that justice would be served in due time.

Mia’s mother has created a GoFundMe page to gather funds for her daughter’s funeral.

My heart breaks as I share the devastating news of the loss of Mia, my beloved daughter, and her unborn child. The page states that the person is asking for God’s protection over her and her baby, and that they are now in heaven with God. “I kindly request your assistance in providing a respectful burial for her and her baby.
