Fans were taken aback in astonishment when they first came across Netflix’s web series ” You” when it first premiered on the 9th of September 2018. You is an American psychological thriller television series developed by Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble.
Produced by Warner Horizon Television, in association with Alloy Entertainment and A&W studios, the first season was based on the 2014 novel by Caroline Kepnes. It depicts the story of Joe Goldberg, a New York book store manager and serial killer ( Penn Badgely) who falls in love with a customer named Guinevere Beck ( Elizabeth Lail) and develops a rather toxic obsession. It features Luca Padovan, Zach Cherry and Shay Mitchell in supporting roles.
Earlier this year fans were overjoyed to find out that ” You “was renewed for a second season based on Kepnes’s follow up novel ” Hidden Bodies” and was released exclusively on Netflix on 26th of December,2019. The second season delivers important information to its audience about the serial killer, Joe. Turns out Beck wasn’t the first girl who’s the life he destroyed. Thus the plot introduces us to Candace, Joe’s presumed dead-ex who reappeared in the final scene of the first season.
In this season Joe hoops on a one-way flight of the city of fame, Los Angeles. Thus he mentions,” It’s the worst city in the world and the last place I want to be, and that’s perfect”. He changes his name to Will Bettelheim, procures a modest apartment and expects to start a new life away from all the drama. He lands a job in a book section of Anavrin and comes across his next victim, perhaps his next ” You”.
Ironically her name is love and her parents own the book store. They both meet each other and Love takes him out on a food tour of the city and throughout the evening, he learns a lot about her. They develop a genuine connection which makes Will wonder if he was wrong about giving up on love. This leaves us thinking will history repeat itself? Will Love become the next Beck? Or is there a twist to the story.
