Now in the final quarter of this game ‘The Last Of Us Part 2, both the characters Elle and Abby have run-ins with a deadly and a inhumane group and they are known as ‘The Rattlers’.
Throughout the part 2 of this game, the Seraphites were shown to be the dominant and a brutal force in the post-apocalyptic Seattle.
While the Seraphites are a looming threat in Ellie’s story, they are then thoroughly explored in Abby’s part of the second part of the game as then she teams with Yara and Lev, they both used to be a part of the organisation.
The Seraphites alone are a quite an interesting group to see and also to analyse in Ellie and Abby’s adventure. However, many of the players seem to have glossed over another potentially even more deadly organisation in the narrative.
Then the Rattlers are introduced late into the second part of the game in Santa Barbara. Although there the player only spends a few hours in the final act, then Rattlers seems to behave much differently than the Seraphites.
Rather than killing in the name of an ideology, it then seems their motive is to enslave people to work on farms.
Although the Santa Barbara section of The Last Of Us Part 2 is only a some few hours long not more than that, Naughty Dog was very much careful to sprinkle in clues as to who The Rattlers were.
The player’s very first exposure to the Rattlers in the gameplay is when Abby and Lev also discovers a very strange work of graffiti on a house.
Then later Lev notes it may be the Fireflies, but then Abby notes this symbol looks nothing like that.
Also, if a player is thorough enough, then they will find that one of the houses in the area has a letter from a victim of The Rattlers, and then it is discovered that he took his own life in fear that the other group will find him.
