Given that Shazam! 2 is at the early stages of pre-production, not much is understood about the job thus far. We all know Henry Gayden is returning to write that David F. Sandberg and Peter Safran, and the screenplay for the movie that is next, the team ! are expected to return as well. But what about the Shazam! Sequel’s plot, villains, and release date? Here’s what we know about Shazam! 2 right now.

What is Shazam 2’s release date?

In December 2019, Warner Bros. announced an official release date! 2: April 1, 2022.

This places the Shazam! Sequel in precisely the same release year as a couple of fellow superhero sequels: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse two, scheduled for launch on April 8, 2022; Black Panther two, slated for May 6, 2022; and Aquaman two, set to arrive on December 16, 2022. It is that first film — the follow-up to 2018’s Academy Award-winning animated feature — which could spell out a little trouble! The movie gave the proximity of the release dates and the fact that they are both superhero movies. Into the Spider-Verse 2 shouldn’t have any difficulties drumming up an audience, and should Shazam! 2, but it will be interesting to determine which film will dominate the box office. Upon their various releases (December 2018 and April 2019), Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse earned $375.5 million worldwide, while Shazam! Scooped up $364.5 million round the globe. The sequels could be neck-and-neck on the money side of things.

As for if Shazam! 2 will start filming, Zachary Levi has said he expects production to start in mid-2020. The manufacturing cycle on Shazam! Only took, therefore, Levi’s quote matches the film’s April 2022 launch date.
