Warhammer Underworlds: Online is a game that is based on the real-life board game that brings cards, dice, and minis together, as bands of warriors fight for glory.
Warhammer Underworlds is bringing Games Workshop’s popular competitive board game to PC, as warbands made up of soldiers from the Warhammer fantasy world do battle in a game that combines some deck-building, map management, and betting it all on dice rolls. The Warhammer and Warhammer 40K series franchise are typically composed of games where the goal is to rout the enemy’s forces (such as in the endless war of the Warhammer, but Warhammer Underworlds: Online is different, as it is still possible to win the game after all of your men have been slaughtered.
The story of Warhammer Underworlds: Online is centred around the city of Shadespire, where groups of looters battle each other while searching for lost treasure. Each player has a Warband composed of several creatures, which can range from the undead guardians of Shadespire, the warriors of the Storm host, or the bloodthirsty servants of Khorne.
Warhammer Underworlds: Online is separate from games like Warhammer 2, as it’s all about small-scale battles between groups of enemies, where the victory conditions can change each turn. The goal of the game is to win more and more Glory Points than the enemy, and these can be acquired in several different ways, including slaying opponents and remaining on objective markets until the end of the turn.
Warhammer Underworlds: Online is a game that is a combination of different elements of board games into a single package. Once the player has selected the members of their Warband, they need to assemble a deck of cards that includes Gambits, Objectives, and Upgrades. Gambits are usually one-off effects, such as how “Peal of Thunder” forces an enemy unit back one space. Upgrades are buffs that last throughout the entire battle, but the stronger ones are usually restricted to one specific unit.
