The sports awards can celebrate the industry’s incredible achievements each year, but in 2015 its show attracted the attention of fans for a different reason, and it began with an unexpected trailer.
Due to the enthusiasm of Psychonauts fans, Double Fine Productions announced the sequel to the classic cult stage. There was little catch, though: the studio needed a little help from fans to make Psychonauts 2 a reality.

Double Fine has been acquired by Microsoft and will join Xbox Game Studio. In a YouTube video, as well as in the Twitter post, Double Fine has promised that Psychonauts 2 will still be released on all platforms, including PS4, despite the company joining Microsoft.

Tim Shaffer special guest, and voice actor for the game, Jack Black joined a Psychonauts 2 panel at E3 2019, where he showcased the latest creation of the game. The board was part of the E3 Coliseum lineup hosted by Geoff Kelley.

Double Fine has released another developer update on YouTube, a series of videos that give us a quick glimpse into the team’s development of Psychonauts 2 and behind-the-scenes footage.
In this most recent day update, Double Fine introduced its latest design team member Asif Siddiqui. Here we see scenes from Amnesia Fortnight 2017, where anyone can throw ideas and Asif’s “The Gods Must Be Hungry” pitch. How he then moved on to Psychonauts 2 as Amnesia wrapped up in a fortnight.
Instead of the usual approach and crowdfunding the game through Kickstarter, Double Fine did something different. The studio decides to create its own crowdfunding platform known as Fig, where a fan’s investment could earn them exclusive rewards and even shares from the sale of the game.
With the goal of developing to $ 3.3 million for the development, more than 24,000 backers pledged to raise more than $ 3.8 million in total a month after the announcement.
But even with this enormous success, the game was far from being a reality.
Story so far
After the Rajputin “Raj” Aquato, the Psychonauts were set up in a fictional government training facility under the guise of having a Whispering Rock Psychic Summer Camp. Rez is captured with Psychonauts, a group of characters gifted with psychic abilities such as Telekinesis, among many others.
Is there a story that is the most well-known story, “How do they come up with this stuff?” Like some classic cartoons, Psychonauts definitely has a vibe to be created under a drug-inspired journey.
After learning of a conspiracy to cut the brains of other psychiatrists to form a psycho-powered army, Rez reaches the minds of his friends to free them from the clutches of their enemies. The end of the game sees the Psychonauts – the Rays include – fleeing to rescue the leader of the Psychonauts, who have been kidnapped.
Last year, Double Fine released Psychonauts of Ruin, a virtual reality game developed for PlayStation VR VR, Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive. Rubin’s Rhombus wakes up, where the Psychonauts leave and follow RJ’s journey to rescue the Grand Head of the Psychonauts Truman Zanotto.
Psychonauts Rubin of Rubin was meant to act as a bridge between the narratives of the first and second games, but so far, Double Fine has been kept separate from parts of the information about the story of Psychonauts 2.
Double Fine founder Tim Shaffer held a Reddit AMA a few years ago where he mentioned that the Rays would arrive at the headquarters of Psychonauts, a lifelong dream they had. However, he ends up finding “many strange things about the organization.”
“When Truman Zanotto was missing, many changes in the direction of the organization were made by his second command,” said.
