Spider-Man lead Tom Holland is energetic promoting his new lively feature Onward, but Marvel’s world is never far from his fans’ minds. During the film’s premiere, Holland was asked if Uncle Ben, one of Spidey’s supporting actors Tony Stark, wanted to return to Gwen Stacy. After lying on Uncle Ben for a moment, Holland had a clear reaction.
Information that is sure to bring a smile to the faces of MCU fans, while perhaps even some of Spider-Man’s pessimists. The biggest departure from the legacy and history of Webb’s Wall is that the MCU coin was removing any direct mention for Uncle Ben, and making Tony Stark the father figure in Peter Parker’s life.
This was a precarious move to ignore such an important figure in Spider-Man’s life as his uncle, the man who raised him since childhood, and the man who brought Spidey’s most famous maxim to him: the great With power comes great responsibility. Also, it was death at the hands of an uncle, who failed to stop Spider-Man, making him a superhero in the comics.
The MCU snatched up all the backstories created by Peter Parker for his inner need, making him Spider-Man. Tony Stark was inspired by his desire to make his first friend in the MCU’s Spider-Man in the superhero community rather than the memory of Uncle Ben, who took him under his wing and even included Spider in the Avengers.
The bond within Tony Stark and Peter Parker was the highlight of the Infinity War saga and according to various records with Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr., the brace delivered blank but love and support for each other.
Holland has often thanked Downey for caring for the older actor featured on the set during the filming of Marvel’s films. And now it is clear that the relationship between them is so strong that Holland would prefer to work with the actor again in Spider-Man 3 rather than any other character in the comic canon.
While Downey’s tenure ended with the death of Iron Man in Avengers: Endgame, he was still able to make his presence felt away from Spider-Man: Home, which later came on as the film Black Widow. Unused footage from films other than rumored cameos. So the prospect of a popup at some point in Tony Stark’s future Spider-Man film is far from impossible, but very unlikely.
