THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is an American supernatural teen drama series that is based on the novel series of the same name by L.J. Smith. Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec developed it.
The show aired on The CW network for a total of eight seasons. It is currently available on Amazon Prime. So for those of you who haven’t yet watched the series, you can binge-watch it on Prime.

The earlier seasons
The series aired for a total of eight seasons. The first instalment came in 2009, and every subsequent season followed it with a year gap. The last came in 2017.
It is one of the most-watched series to date. The series had not just one but two of its spinoff, namely THE ORIGINALS and LEGACIES.
The show mainly centers around Elena, a high-school girl who loses her parents in a car accident.
Her life becomes chaotic when two brothers, namely the Salvatore brothers, enters her life, leading to a love triangle between the three.
The epic romance of Delena [ Elena and Damon] or for Stelena fans [Stefan and Damon] had gripped the audience to date, which makes the fans still holding up to the hope of a new season when the final season gave closure to every character.
In the 8th season, Stephan dies trying to save his brother Damon and killing Katherine. Elena and Damon finally get a happy ending with Bonnie’s love interest dead [ Enzo] and Caroline living with Alaric to take care of their daughters [after Stefan, who was her husband, died].
They also end up opening a school for supernaturals, namely Salvatore Boarding School
What about the new season?
The cast of the series has already taken up new projects and thus will not return even if another season is renewed.
Before the release of season 8, Julie Plec had already confirmed that it would be the last season.
Thus there is no new season coming for now. The series’ characters had many crossovers in the ongoing series of Legacies
