The Rising of the Shield Hero was originally published as a web novel in the user-generated novel site Shōsetsuka ni Narō. The Japanese light novel version is written by Aneko Yusagi. The series has been published by Media Factory. This publication came with an expanded storyline and illustrations by Seira Minami.
The series was adapted into a manga series by Aiya Kyu. The anime series that came out subsequently was produced by Kinema Citrus. It aired from January to June of 2019. The second and third seasons have already been announced.
What Is It About?
The series follows the adventures of Naofumi Iwatani, a mild-mannered Japanese young boy. The story spans across parallel universes and exciting weapons and legendary battles. The hero of the series, Naofumi, is betrayed by his sole companion at one point, who deserts him after flying off with all his belongings. From this point on, the series runs like a revenge-thriller, with the hero bent on having his vengeance.
