Anne With an E Returns to Netflix now with its third — and allegedly final — season.

In this age of Peak TV, we’re used to favorite shows having an ignoble early cancellation, but there is something different about Anne With an E’s instance.

In other words, fans have not rallied into the show’s cause however, the lovers may win this round.

To understand why Anne Having an E still may have an Opportunity To come back from the dead, you have to know all about the series itself. The series reimagines Lucy Maud Montgomery’s classic heroine for a modern audience.

Young Anne Shirley (Amybeth McNulty) is not portrayed simply as an odd duck, but the victim of years of institutional abuse.

Her friends and her grapple with heavy issues like racism and classism, you understand, as well as the perils of green hair dye purchased from untrustworthy peddlers.

Anne With an E is a bold take on traditional material, and it just exists thanks to a now-defunct partnership involving the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Company) and Netflix.

When that alliance broke apart, so did Anne With an E’s funding…or did it?

WHY WAS ANNE WITH AN E CANCELLED? CAN ANNE WITH AN E BE UN-CANCELED?

Back in August 2018, Deadline Reported that CBC and Netflix moved ahead with a third period of the show ahead of its linear Canadian debut on CBC.

The comments from the General Manager Sally Catto, of Programming, in this time of CBC, seemed to indicate that CBC was signed onto the series for the very long term.

Catto said, “We do not doubt that Canadians will continue to fall in love with this gorgeous and heartwarming string for seasons to come.”

Now that could have only twist to hype the season, but Something happened about a year after.

CBC’s president and CEO Catherine Tait disclosed in October 2019 that CBC wouldn’t longer partner with Netflix on big co-productions, such as Anne With an E.

Financial Post noted that Tait shared with the Content Canada podcast that”we are not likely to do deals that hurt the long-time viability of our national industry.” Essentially, she felt that Netflix acquired from this bargain compared to CBC.

This dialog came smack amid Anne Having an E’s season series and on November 25, 2019, Netflix declared that January 3, 2020, as the premiere date to its next and final season of Anne With an E.

The CBC claimed that they and Netflix came to a joint decision regarding the potential of the show, but curiously both firms have coped to revive the string in ways that were different.
