‘The Nevers’: Joss Whedon’s HBO Sci-Fi Drama Series Adds 12 To Cast

HBO is setting the cast for The Never, its direct-series drama from Buffy Vampire Slayer Creator and The Avengers writer/director Joss Whedon. Leading Laura Donley features Olivia Williams (Miss Austen Rigret), James Norton (Grantchester), Tom Riley (Dark Heart), Ann Skelly (Death and Nightingales), Ben Chaplin (The Children’s Act), Pip Torrance (The Crown), Zacary Momo (Seven Seconds), Amy Manson (Torchwood), Nick Frost (Fighting with My Family), Rochelle Neil (Death in Heaven), Eleanor Tomlinson (Poldark) and Dennis O’Hare (It’s For Us).

Whedon and Buffy alums Written by Jane Espenson and Doug Petrie and directed by Whedon, and The Nevers is an epic science-fiction drama about a gang of Victorian women who may find themselves with unusual abilities, relentless enemies, and world-changing missions.

The Nevers

Williams will play Lavinia Bida. A wealthy spinner and champion of the “touched,” Lavinia funds the orphanage (where Amalia and many touched lives) through the fate of her vast family. She is tough and old-fashioned, but with strong will and smartness, she faces anyone.

Norton, Hugo Swan, is a pansexual posh boy whose charm has nearly five years left. He runs a side trade and a secret club in blackmail. He is dedicated to fulfilling everyone’s worst impression – and fascinated by Touch.

Riley portrays Augustus “Augie” Bidalo, an acute, disarming idiot and Lavinia’s younger brother. A keen ornithologist, Augie is happy to hand over the reins of the family’s fortune to his elder sister. He finds it unnecessary to be touched but is charmed by her growing disenchantment with Miss Adair, and the plans of her nefarious best friend, Hugo.

Skelly is Paynes Adair, Amalia (Donley) is the dearest friend, and one of the first women to join her cause. A devout – yet progressively – Irish girl, Paynes has a talent for invention. He is pleased with his power, and his default is love and acceptance. But he is firm in his moral sense and will be guided every time what is expedient.

Chaplin portrays Detective Frank Mundy. Big, gruesome, and deeply moral, the detective Mundi is none the less trusting of himself: his reputation for sudden violence (and excessive alcohol) is not unreasonable. Frank catches himself among the powerful, who ignore the laws of the land, and the newly empowered, who ignore the laws of physics.

Torrance is Lord Masen – staunch, innocent and ruthless in his defence of the British Empire, this former general, now Pir may be the only person who sees clearly that some of these strange people have wreaked havoc on the established order. Can — the one he will protect one way or the other.

2019 HBO pilot and series order

Momo plays the role of Doctor Horacio Cousin. One of the best successful West Indian physicians in London. Married with a young son Horatio’s fate took a dark turn when he met Amalia and discovered his potential. Now he works with her and beggar king, who does not care, which is not “different.”

Manson is Malady. Committed by her husband (and indeed unstable), she is perverted by a power she cannot understand, and is tortured by doctors with the intention of finding her source. She is now living in the underground, runs a gang, and is in a notorious murder spree. She imbues the dramatic parody of a Bedal Weif, but as crazy as she is, she is an all-purpose woman.

Frost will play the role of Deccan Orun, aka The Beggar King. Charismatic and ruthless, Declan runs – or is a piece of – most of the low-level criminal activity in the city. He is perfectly happy to help Amalia and her cause – and equally happy to sell them outside. He supports the winners and is long touched.

Neil Annie is Carbay aka Bonfire, Annie is a career criminal who has landed in the ability to control fire and is happy to hire it outside. Came roughly, staying that way, but she was neither impulsive nor cruel – just looking for herself. No matter who she works with, Annie only trusts Annie,
