In episode 3, Clancy visits a universe covered with water. There he meets a fish named Darryl. This fish has an unusual enthusiasm for magic and an ever-growing collection of cats. This Darryl the fish is played by Damien Echols, who almost spent 2 decades of his life in a death row.

In 1993, Damien along with two other teenage guys was accused with the murder of a 3-year-old child. They protested for their innocence but they were found guilty at that time. Damien was only 18 years old when he was sentenced to death and his two associates were sentenced to life in prison. After so many years, some other DNA evidence uncovered which clearly showed the then-teenage boys were innocent.

Later in 2011, after passing 18 years 78 days in prison all the three men were released from the prison. Several documentaries are made on the trio. One of them is West of Memphis (produced by Peter Jackson and Damien Echols himself).

The eight-episode series Midnight Gospel season 1 is available to stream now.  It released on 20th April, 2020.
