Netflix’s original movie, The Last Thing He Wanted, is reportedly been around the viewer’s watch-list. On the other hand, the film helmed by Dee Rees is receiving not so good reviews for its incomprehensible plot.

The Last Thing He Wanted Explained
Elena McMahon (Anne Hathaway) is a reporter in The Atlantic Post. She is sent to pay the Civil War that was fought amongst the El Salvador military-led government and an alliance of the groups.
And from the case, Elena gets pulled off because of some problems that she worked on and is sent to pay US President Ronald Reagan’s re-election effort trial. Elena covertly covers the narrative and is unhappy with her post.
While she’s covering the story for its re-election campaign, she strives to interview the secretary of state, George Shultz about weapons that are being smuggled through Nicaragua.
Later, she receives photographs of their weapons being smuggled along with a note telling her to stay out rather than getting involved with it. She later finds out that the weapons in those photos are from the National Guard excess and later has to know that the weapons have been shipped from Florida to Central America.
Elena is afterward informed her father was declared at the hospital. She goes to meet her father and soon leaves the campaign trail. Elena has to know her father was involved in certain actions in Central America.
He also has a big deal with his spouse, which he needs Elena to complete it for him. Elena agrees to finish the work of her father and proceeds to take a plane packed with weapons where she has to send this material to collect the money and return.
When the stuff is delivered by Elena she doesn’t receive her payment and also misses her flight back home. Elena later realizes she is at risk as she had been taken to the army base camps.
By stealing a car, she manages to escape the area and drives herself. She calls her friend to do some digging her dad’s partner, Max Epperson where she then finds out that there’s not anyone using the name or identity that exists.
