What Is “The French Dispatch” About?

Divided into three sections, “The French Dispatch” is a showcase of three short and unique stories of the American magazine based in a small fictional French city. Every section has its own unique part to it with a very Wes Anderson blend to it.

The first story revolves around a violent, heavily bearded artist who happens to be a psychopath, trapped behind the bars. In comes, an art dealer who is conflicted about encouraging the art of someone who is caught behind the bars. The second story is about a student and a journalist who writes his great manifesto. The third one is the one where the son of a police chief is kidnaped by a gangster.

All of them being well-thought and mind-provoking stories, Wes Anderson is sure to create magic and justify the plot with his eye-catching landscapes and exceptional production design. He has a straightforward way of conveying his stories and yet maintaining a sense of mystery in them.

During an interview Wes mentioned, “The story is not easy to explain, It’s about an American journalist based in France who creates his magazine. It is more a portrait of this man, of this journalist who fights to write what he wants to write. It’s not a movie about freedom of the press, but when you talk about reporters you also talk about what’s going on in the real world.”

Where Can You Watch “The French Dispatch”?

The filmmakers and producers wished for the movie to be viewed in the theatres and hence delayed the premiere by a year. Hence, the movie will first be released in the theatres, so we’ll have to wait until it starts streaming on other platforms.

The distributor of the film, Searchlight Pictures, is owned by Disney. We can assume that the movie could be released on Disney+ or Hulu, which are both Disney owned streaming platforms. However, an official statement has not been released by any of the involved parties.
