The Crown Season 5

The team is beginning to arrive in Elstree Studios north of London in preparation for a summer shoot. The team is expecting to start shooting in July after COVID restrictions are lifted. The Crown’s production team will still shoot under strict security protocols to create the safest working environment possible.

Joining The Crown for the fifth season is a formidable record of British heavyweights. Elizabeth Debicki, lately found in Tenet, will take on the role of Princess Diana out of Corrin while Dominic West will perform Prince Charles, her estranged husband. Harry Potter actress Imelda Staunton will take on the role of Queen Elizabeth alongside Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread) as Princess Margaret. Game of Thrones’Jonathan Pryce will perform Prince Philip. The remainder of The Crown’s season five throw remains a mystery and there are still a few major roles to fill.

After the series picks up after the finish of The Crown season four, Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ children will have increased considerably. Princess Anne, who had been played by Erin Doherty in season four, will also likely play a prominent part. With production ramping up in July along with a sixth season too in the works, it is difficult to say if The Crown will premiere. Typically, the Netflix series debuts in the fall, but a July production might leave the door open to get a previous premiere. It is dependent on whether or not Netflix would like to sit the new season for a couple of extra weeks or if they want to build on the show’s awards momentum and create a play for the 2022 Emmy Awards ceremony.
