The Boys Season 2 Updates: Love it or hate it, the superhero genre isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. But that doesn’t mean every piece of superhero lore to hit big and small screens has to buy into a sense of idol worship. For The Boys, the Amazon series based on the comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, superheroes are anything but super. And, as it turns out, that’s exactly the kind of portrayal people want to see.
Beyond that, there’s so much to get excited about for the second go-around of the Amazon Prime superhero series. A new Super, for starters, but also a handful of casting news that should get the ol’ heart pumping. Too soon? Sorry, A-Train.
Plus, if you’re looking for honest-to-Homelander footage from The Boys season 2 then you need to clap your (laser) eyes on the first trailer down below. There are even cast quotes galore, a confirmed episode count, and even a series of episode titles for you to look way too much into in the short time we have left before The Boys are back. Ready?
The Boys season 2 release date announcement is happening “soon”
All being well, we could be seeing The Boys season 2 in the summer, though that, of course, could change due to current real-world events. All eight episodes of the first season debuted on July 26. Show creator Eric Kripke thinks it’ll be a similar situation next year, while the trailer gives an ambiguous window of “2020.”
Speaking to Collider last year, he hoped for season 2 to “drop one full year after the first season, so about the same time next year.” July 2020, then… hopefully.
Karl Urban has backed that release window up by posting a “mid-2020” date on Instagram but leave it to Kripke to have the final say. Posting to Twitter on May 16, he said there will be a release date announcement (and “other cool shit”) heading our way very soon.
The cast of The Boys Season 2
We are anticipating Jack Quaid as Hughie Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, and Erin Moriarty as Annie January. The other actors will be Antony Starr, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Amongst Others.
The plot of The Boys Season 2
When we last left our ragtag group of anti-heroes on season 1 of The Boys, the future of the corrupt superheroes known as the Seven — and of Vought International, the company that manages the team — was completely up in the air.
Season 1 finale left a lot of doors open for where season 2 could go, but the biggest revelation we dealt with had to do with Billy Butcher and his season-long vendetta against Homelander. When Butcher realized that his wife Becca (Shantel VanSanten) was, in fact, still alive and also raising her and Homelander’s 8-year-old child, Butcher was left in a position that not even comic fans know the outcome of.
The Boys Season 2 Story
Now that Vought International vice president Madelyn Stillwell (Elisabeth Shue) is out of the picture, season 2 of The Boys will also have to deal with what will come of Homelander, as well as the future of Vought. Chances are that we’ll be seeing much more of the company’s inner politics come 2020, and we’re sure to get a wider variety of Supes in the mix, especially considering the addition of Stormfront to the cast.
While we won’t be seeing it until season 3 rolls around (if it happens), The Boys creator Eric Kripke has promised that the show will explore the comic’s infamous Herogasm storyline. And also season 2 will plant those particular seeds that will ultimately grow on season 3 of The Boys.
