Aya Cash, that depicted the villainous Stormfront on The Boys season 2, revealed she had been cast before season 1 was released. The Boys is an adaptation of Garth Ennis’ and Darick Robertson’s comic book series of the same name. The first season fell Amazon Prime in 2019 to critical acclaim. The Boy’s season 2 proved in Fall 2020, resulting in even more critical praise whilst also serving as a rating juggernaut for Amazon – together with The Boys season 2 premiere drawing in a larger audience than the season 2 premiere of The Mandalorian.
Cash depicted Stormfront – that joined the Seven following Translucent’s passing during season 1. Initially, she looked like a breath of new air – rejecting Vought’s commercialism and serving as a sort of mentor figure to Starlight. But, one of the season’s biggest spins came with the reveal that Stormfront was really decades older than she appeared – and was also a former Nazi. The story changed and Stormfront took on the role as the primary villain for the remaining episodes – using her popularity and big social media after to radicalize individuals against superheroes.
Cash revealed she had been cast as Stormfront before The Boys season 1 had even premiered. Cash stated that she auditioned several months before season 1 premiered and until the series had even been picked up for season 2. Cash cited the need to make a custom suit around the celebrity as the motive for casting Stormfront before the series had released a single incident. While she was worried about portraying the complex character – especially before she even got to see the series – her discussions with showrunner Eric Kripke reassured her that the undertaking would be quality. Check out Cash’s full comment below:
“It had been a few months before Season 1 came out. They had not even been picked up for Season 2, but they had to employ someone to play this part because they had to build the suit in your entire body which was gonna wear it. They had not picked up for Season 2, but I got hired. I moved, I Had I did a 20-minute talk with Eric about the function, since I had been told going into the audition,’ Look, the sides don’t say this, but this is gonna be a complex function .’ And I have no trouble playing deeply unlikable individuals or villains, but obviously, that was gonna be something that had to be treated with intelligence and wasn’t likely to be glorifying this character in a way which I disagreed with, but it would be in service to something. So after talking to Eric, I sensed very, very good hands.”
Stormfront’s destiny was left ambiguous in The Boys season 2 finale. She had been murdered by Homelander’s son, left burnt and almost unconscious after their confrontation. However, Kripke did affirm that Stormfront is still alive, though her potential future on The Boys is up in the air. Cash herself was unsure if Stormfront would reunite for season 3, speculating that she probably would not since creation for the new season had begun and her contract was only for one year.
While Stormfront’s time The Boys may be up, both the personality and Cash’s performance will probably remain among the highlights during its entire run. Cash’s portrayal was always praised throughout the season’s broadcasting, along with the twist involving Stormfront sent shockwaves around the internet. Cash’s decision to portray such a complicated character before even watching The Boys was certainly a brave one – and it paid off in the end.
