Sega’s Super Monkey Ball was one of the writer’s most entertaining franchises. With multiplayer options that were deep and it’s player modes, the first two Monkey Ball games established a passionate fan base. Unfortunately, games like Super Monkey Ball: Step and Roll and Super Monkey Ball: Banana Splitz failed to and the series has been within the last couple of years, on life support.
In October, Sega attempted to resuscitate the series with Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD, an improved port of a game originally released as a launch title for the Nintendo Wii in 2006. In an interview with Crunchyroll, Banana Blitz HD director Masao Shirosaki said that the port could show Sega there is demand for more Monkey Ball.
“I’m really grateful for the lovers who still support the Monkey Ball series after all these years, and who inspire me to create only the very best for them. And needless to say, I am conscious that most titles are the first two matches.
If there is enough support for Banana Blitz HD, this may open up doors for remaking the first two matches or possibly a new title to the sequence. But for the time being, I would be happy if everybody has fun playing Banana Blitz HD.”
After Banana Blitz introduced, many fans took issue with the match’s motion controls. Banana Blitz HD eschews those controls in favor of a more conventional controller strategy.
The new version also dumped a range of party games, focusing instead on fan favorites such as Monkey Snowboarding and Monkey Target. So fans could share their scores online, finally, the game also added online leaderboards.
A game that is new would be preferable to lovers while these additions are certainly nice.
Banana Blitz HD is the first launch on Android and iOS in the franchise because of the Super Monkey Ball Bounce of 2012.
Fans are not the only ones hoping for a new game in the show, however. Shirosaki wants to see it.
“As for my next project, I have many thoughts in your mind but my hope is to create a new Monkey Ball title”
