The Plot ans Story of Season 3
On being asked about Ryn’s baby’s fully grown first appearance in season 3 trailer, in an interview with TVLine, Eline Powell said, “ To be honest, I welled up a little bit. In those underwater scenes, I have to imagine that the baby is there.
I had no idea what it was going to look like, but as you can see by my smile, I played it off like it was going to be a beauty.
The Trailer of Season 3
Then I finally saw it in the trailer, and they did such a marvelous job! It looks so perfect. Even the tiny little webbed hands get me going.
You know, babies’ hands and all that stuff. For me, it’s a highlight of the show have a mini Ryn swimming around.”
Though the baby didn’t make an appearance in the first two-part premiere, but it is surely shown in the later episodes of the season.
Ryn’s baby which is growing in Meredith’s uterus because unfortunately, Ryn couldn’t get pregnant. The pollution in the water makes it impossible for the mermaids to reproduce.
Powell is not worried about how will Ryn adapt to motherhood as according to her “motherhood will be a primal instinct to Ryn”.
She reminds us by saying, “That box is ticked. But the circumstances in which she becomes a mother are perhaps a bit more unconventional, so the challenge really lies there. How does she raise a child when she lives in two worlds? How do you balance the two? That will be interesting.”
Nonetheless, it’s a show, and not everything can be ‘happy and gay’ in a show. Therefore, along with the happiness of Ryn’s baby, arrives the dangerous troublemaker in Bristol cave, to pose an interesting challenge this season. A cunning and powerful mermaid, Tia (played by Tiffany Lonsdale), whose plan against the human world does not align with Ryn’s.
An interesting set has been built for Ryn and Tia as Powell says, “This character has a good reason and a good philosophy behind her actions. But a lot of people have good intentions, it depends on how you act on them. Tia is also incredibly advanced. She’s been with humans for many years, so she speaks fluently and doesn’t have any mermaid mannerisms.”
Tia is a really strong antagonist for Ryn. She’s a mermaid who is far more sophisticated than Ryn. She might be more powerful, has been on land longer, speaks better English, she’s is just on a whole another level. So Ryn really has her work cut out for her with this one because Tia is TROUBLE!!
