The storyline is set in the Remnant world, and it follows four ladies as they learn into becoming Huntresses at Beacon Academy in order to face evil creatures known as Grimm. To combat the Grimm’s darkness, Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang establish team RWBY.

Geoff Yetter, the executive producer of Rooster Teeth, said on the series’ official website: “RWBY: Ice Queendom would not be an alternate universe or a reboot, to begin with. We’re dubbing the story “canon adjacent” because it takes place in the very same world as the main show.”

“The new show stays remarkably true to the original while taking some interesting and unique liberties to shake things up. RWBY: IQ’s first two episodes will cover V1–V2 before launching into a brave new journey filled with new characters, locales, surprises, and new Grimm. Not just that, but you’ll recognize a lot of the people.”

He continued, “While modifications to current RWBY content aren’t technically considered canonical, it’s a story that could certainly live alongside other RWBY content – we just encouraged the Japan team to have as much fun as they wanted with it. Now, as for what the show’s story is about, well, you’ll have to wait and see!”

RWBY: Ice Queendom’ is a gorgeous 2D anime adaptation of RWBY. RWBY depicts a world plagued with terrifying monsters bent on murder and devastation, with strong Huntsmen and Huntresses as humanity’s last hope.
