Before the Holidays, a New American Stimulus Check Arrives
Several American states have devised their own stimulus checks in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The year 2021 is rapidly reaching its end. However, with the COVID-19 dilemma still ongoing, many Americans are wondering whether a fresh stimulus check will be sent in time for the Christmas season.
The federal government’s decision on a fourth COVID-19 relief payment is still up in the air. Nonetheless, some nations have chosen to provide their own financial assistance to their citizens.
Maine is one of the states in the United States that will get stimulus funding in December, according to the Sun. As previously said, eligible persons may anticipate them arriving before the holidays.
Residents of Main have received a new stimulus check.
The “surprise” Disaster Relief Payment is the source of the new stimulus payment. It will apparently be distributed to over 500,000 people in Maine, with everyone receiving a $285 payment.
Since November 15, the state’s Department of Administrative and Financial Services has begun disbursing the funds. However, the rollout will continue through the end of the year.
It’s supposedly a manner of thanking employees who kept vital companies open for the public during the COVID-19 pandemic’s early stages. As a result, it is a type of “hazard pay” for people who have worked into the year 2020.
Qualifications and eligibility
The new stimulus check in the state contains further qualifying conditions, in addition to working consistently in 2020. Only those employees who earn less than a certain amount are eligible for the reward.
The adjusted gross income (AGI) for married couples or joint filers should be less than AU$210,000. The AGI should be less than AU$105,000 for individuals and AU$156,800 for heads of households, respectively.
Anything over and above these amounts will be disqualified from receiving the stimulus grant. According to Yahoo! Finance, the assistance fund does not apply to people who are classified as someone’s “dependent.”
Child Tax Credit Updates
The expanded Child Tax Credit payments are not the same as the additional stimulus money for Maine citizens. This particular kind of relief check is the result of a joint effort by the federal government and the Internal Revenue Service.
Beginning in July, the first half of the credit was paid out in monthly installments. The last payment will be made on December 15, and the second half will be paid in one lump amount when taxes for 2021 are filed next year.
However, like with the fourth stimulus check, it is unclear if the expanded Child Tax Credit would be extended in 2022. Nonetheless, the House has already sent a plan to the Senate, assuring that the credit would be extended for another year.
