The fourth season of Spanish drama Money Heist has only just dropped on Netflix, but fans are already keen to know if there will be a spin-off series.
Money Heist returned earlier this month for its long-awaited fourth series and thankfully it did not disappoint. If you’ve already binge-watched series four of Money Heist, then you’ll know that the Netflix show ended on a cliffhanger.
The ending has left viewers eager for season five and has lead to rumours circulating about the show, including a possible spin-off for the main characters like Berlin.
After seeing the finale for ourselves, we can concur. In the last episode of La Casa de Papel’s fourth season, Lisbon is reunited with the crew.
Thanks to the Professor’s ingenious manoeuvring, they all manage to escape from the Bank of Spain.
This moment of triumphant is undercut, however, by Alicia showing up at the Professor’s private hideaway. She holds a gun to his head. But the scene is complicated: Alicia is now in trouble with the law herself.
Will Alicia turn on the Professor? Or, now that she’s a fugitive as well, could they…team up? Stranger things have happened.
Netflix’s Money Heist Season 5 Release Date
So far, Netflix has not yet confirmed if there will be another series but going by the worldwide popularity of the show, it seems unlikely it will end anytime soon. Fans expect series five to be released sometime in April 2021 but due to the coronavirus lockdown, any potential future season could be released a lot later.
Will there be a spin-off series of Money Heist?
Even if La Casa de Papel is over, Pina isn’t finished with its characters. He’s dreaming up ideas of what he can do next.
Money Heist creator Alex Pina revealed to Oprah Magazine in 2019 that the possibility of some spin-off shows were in the pipeline.
He said: “We do have many possibilities for some spin-offs, yes, and I think that’s thanks to the strong and powerful identities of the characters.
And he already has some very specific ideas. “I think Arturito could have a black comedy. Berlin’s case for his own show is very clear; he’s a misogynist, a psychopath, egocentric, a narcissist, a delinquent, a rapist…but still there are lots of people who adore him, because he values friendship, loyalty or fraternity. From Nairobi to El Profesor…Denver is yet another character with his own charm.”
“We’ve always looked for characters to have a very complex, layered design.
“So I think almost every character of Money Heist has a duality that we would like to see in a spin-off. We could watch any of them in other contexts.”
For now, we’ll just have to wait and see what unfolds.
