Messiah’s prayers were not answered: Netflix has canceled the religion-themed thriller after only 1 season, according to our sister site Variety.
The news was reported by series co-star Wil Travel, who announced on Instagram: “it is a very sad day today. I have just received information from Netflix that there’ll not be a Season 2 of Messiah. I wished to say thank you for love and your support. I wish things were different”
The present coronavirus epidemic played a part in the cancellation, according to Variety: Netflix did not feel confident hammering a series that necessitated shooting in so many foreign locales in the middle of a worldwide pandemic.
Messiah starred Michelle Monaghan (Authentic Detective, The Path) as Eva Geller, a CIA officer investigating a mysterious”miracle man” who has developed a cult-like following around the world. Since the prophet brings huge crowds of loyal disciples, he says he is simply doing”God’s work”… but is he only scamming people with fake miracles? The cast included Mehdi Dehbi, Travel, John Ortiz and Tomer Sisley.
The series joins fellow one-and-done AJ and the Queen, Spinning Out and Soundtrack on the list of current Netflix cancellations.
