It comes as no surprise to us that Sex Education is regarded as one of the most popular series on Netflix. It crossed over 40 million views and became the most streamed series on Netflix! Along with an unaltered and creative storyline, the show is often praised for it’s cast and making the headline these days is our beloved Scottish- Rwandan actor, Ncuti Gatwa. He played the character of Eric in the series, a jolly gay student who loves drag and is unbothered by what people had to say about him. Gatwa’s character has reached out to anyone who has ever found themselves in a similar situation and gives them the confidence to be nothing but their true selves.
The Sex Education star in an interview shared his views on his character as Eric in the series, ” It’s nice to have a gay character, a black character, be at the forefront of the story on a show like this that has the reach it does on Netflix”, he said. It matters, I hope, that other little black boys around the world can be like,” Oh, Eric is like this and it’s cool.” We must allow different people to occupy these spaces. Eric is driving force in his own story as well, which I’m proud of .”
None the fewer fans have been appreciative of Gatwa’s comments and views on his character and the LGBTQ community. The fans have even praised the creator of the show, Lauri Nunn for depicting Moordale High as a school where the LGBTQ community is accepted. Moreover, we see students being comfortable in their skin to be it as an asexual, bisexual or even if they are in an interracial relationship.
