Man Charged for Injuring Trooper in Hit-and-Run

Trooper D. Black was driving a designated State Police vehicle in the vicinity of Three Notch Road and S Sandgates Road in Hollywood, MD on November 13, 2021, when his car was hit-a-run by another vehicle.

The driver of the hitting car, John Joseph Hollenback, 65, of Mechanicsville, MD, left the scene but was eventually identified.


Cpl Z. Null tracked down Hollenback shortly after the car hit and arrested him.

Hollenback was sent to the Detention Center of St. Mary’s County.

Hollenback was charged with Negligent Driving, Failure to Immediately Stop Vehicle at Scene of Injury Accident, Failure of Driver at Crossover to Yield Right-of-Way to Vehicle on Highway, Failure to Control Vehicle Speed on Highway to Avoid Collision, Failure of Driver in Accident to Furnish Required ID and License, and Failure of Vehicle to Yield Right-of-Way to Another Vehicle.

MECHANICSVILLE, Md. – The town of Mechanicsville is located in the state of Maryland. This evening, we’re getting reports of a car collision involving a Maryland State Police vehicle.

After being alerted near Chaffee Court, first responders were sent to the 25000 block of Three Notch Road, in the neighborhood of South Sandgates Road, at around 5:40 p.m. on November 13.

Upon arrival, workers discovered the Maryland State Police car off the road, with no other vehicles engaged in an accident nearby.

The Trooper who was involved was sent to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries shortly after the hit.

The suspect in the collision is thought to have left the area at this time.

The Maryland State Police are continuing their investigation, and the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is assisting in the search for the car that hit and run.
