Followed by a seven-year halt, director and all-around franchise mainstay Justin Lin has come back to Fast & Furious for what he states as “the most ambitious” launch in Universal’s gear-grinding sequel.
That is quite the declaration, provided next summer discerns the launch of Fast & Furious 9. Nine films! And that is not even counting the recently-launched Hobbs & Shaw spinoff. But for the whole of the heavy that the Fast & Furious brand transpires, Justin Lin has completely emerged from production with a grin on his face, acquiring to Twitter to declare that filming on Fast & Furious 9 has now come around ahead of its primetime release in May of 2020.
Oh, and he even went so distant as to say that this is “by far the most ambitious movie of the sequel,” before showing gratitude his global crew for their energetic work across London, Edinburgh, Phuket, Krabi, Tbilisi, Los Angeles… and space?
Even if it comes short of Lin”s estimation, Fast & Furious 9 will still be an all around-trotting adventure, including a little extra spiciness to the Torreto mix, this particular time around includes Finn Cole, Anna Sawai, Vinnie Bennett, Guardians of the Galaxy star Michael Rooker and John Cena, who may or may not be acquiring the role of Dom’s long-lost brother.
If not false, it would give away a greasy spanner in the workings of this billion-dollar company – from a storytelling perspective, at the least – and may well provide as the start of Universal’s planned two-part final. That is just conjecture as of now, but with filming now finished, the newest Fast movie just arrived the home stretch further of its launch next year.
Stating of which, Universal has designated Fast & Furious 9 for a global launch on May 22nd, 2020.
