The Sanderson sisters were gone for 300 years, so what’s a few more? Last October, Disney+ officially announced that it is developing Hocus Pocus 2, a sequel to the 1993 classic, but in the year since, additional information about the film has been scarce. Now that’s some hocus pocus.
With Halloween upon us, Hocus Pocus fans are desperate to know more about the highly-anticipated sequel, and now, we finally have a few more morsels of information. When is Hocus Pocus 2 being released? Is there a Hocus Pocus 2 trailer? Here’s everything we know — and everything we don’t.
IS THERE GOING TO BE A HOCUS POCUS 2?
Yes! In October 2019, it was finally confirmed that Disney+ is developing a Hocus Pocus sequel with Workaholics writer and producer Jen D’Angelo. At that time, Collider reported that D’Angelo will write the script and oversee pre-production on the anticipated sequel.
WHEN DOES HOCUS POCUS 2 COME OUT?
Unfortunately, Disney+ has yet to announce a Hocus Pocus 2 release date. While many fans were hopeful that the sequel would debut in time for Halloween this year, the COVID-19 pandemic unfortunately complicated things for Hocus Pocus 2 and many other films and TV projects.
HOCUS POCUS 2 RELEASE DATE: 2020 OR BEYOND?
As of now, it seems unlikely that Hocus Pocus 2 will debut in 2020. However, now that many productions have resumed under strict COVID-19 protocols, it’s possible that the sequel could begin filming in time for a Halloween 2021 release. In the meantime, fans should cast as many spells as needed to make that happen!
HOCUS POCUS CAST 2: WILL BETTE MIDLER, SARAH JESSICA PARKER, AND KATHY NAJIMY BE IN HOCUS POCUS 2?
When news of the Hocus Pocus 2 sequel officially broke last year, Collider reported that D’Angelo has “been tasked with finding a way to bring back” all three Sanderson sisters, played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy. Sources close to the situation said that Disney is “hopeful [the three actresses] will be involved with the sequel in some capacity,” but the studio has not yet revealed what exactly that means.
However, in a recent interview with ET, Midler said that she’s “absolutely” game to reprise her role as Winifred Sanderson in Hocus Pocus 2. “I can’t wait to fly!” she told the outlet, adding that she and producers are “just talking logistics” about the sequel. Amok! Amok! Amok! Amok!
Alas, there is not a Hocus Pocus 2 trailer quite yet, but expect footage from the sequel to hit the internet shortly after filming begins.
