Viewers were taken aback when social taboos like sex, drugs, and US suburbia surfaces in the popular HBO series ” Euphoria”, created by Sam Levinson. This eight-part series was a runaway hit this summer of 2019.
This teen drama offers a fresh perspective to the lives of Gen-Z high schoolers, who try to find their place and explore their struggles with social media, dating, and addiction in a referrer way. From an impressive soundtrack by Labrinth, One Direction animated fan erotica, and nudity in a single episode, it is only normal that the series will be returning for a second season on HBO.
With an impressive storyline and different characters in varying degrees of emotional distress, it really makes us wonder, what twisted turn will the plot take now? As we are already aware that Euphoria is based on an Israeli series of the same name, it completely astonished the audience with it’s a raw and realistic depiction of the lives of these teenagers when it came out in August.
The story depicts Rue (Zendaya) as she parts way with her girlfriend, Jules ( Hunter Schaefer) on a train platform and she breaks her three-month sobriety by taking painkillers to ease the pain.
In another segment, we see Cassie ( Sydney Sweeney), with the support of her mother and sister Lexi( Maude Apatow) heads to an abortion clinic after she found out about her pregnancy with McKay. As the last episode left us at a cliffhanger, there was no doubt that the series was likely to return with a second season.
Like the first season, the second season too is anticipated to explore the usually avoided topics of sex, drugs, love, and identity, as these young adults reach their sophomore season.
Moreover in an interview, Zendaya revealed that she had been pestering Euphoria’s creator and the writer Sam Levinson to provide answers about her rather critical character, Rue, who seemed to relapse in the closing moments of the finale, thereby leaving the audience at the edge of their seats.
