The American television drama series Greenleaf revolves around the story of the titular family, who runs a megachurch in Memphis, Tennessee. The church has a large African-American membership base. The family is led by Bishop James and Lady Mae.
Their estranged daughter, Grace, suddenly returns home after 20 years when her sister mysteriously dies. In the show’s final eight episodes, Grace and the Greenleaf family try to erase the painful memory of their past as much as they can so that they can look forward to the future and see what plans the future holds for them.
The eighth and the final episode of the fifth and the final season of Greenleaf aired recently. It gave the series a heartfelt conclusion and a neat finale.
Greenleaf Season 5 Episode 8:
Greenleaf’s final episode starts with the tragic passing of Keith David’s patriarchal figure of Bishop James Greenleaf. The family is naturally upset at the turn of events. Following Bishop James’s funeral, Lady Mae is asked to lead the Sunday worship at the church and to speak about her husband’s passing.
In the run-up to the Sunday service, Lady Mae is visibly sad. However, it becomes clear gradually that she is going to become the church’s pastor going forward. While all of that has gone on, however, Grace is considering leaving for New York for a job.
Grace eventually leaves and this is certainly one of the most emotional turns of the series. “It’s just Grace Greenleaf now,” she tells her driver before the car leaves the frames and the credits roll.
While the finale of season five was being aired, OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network) announced a new series that would be making its way to the channel. In a teasing clip, all that was present were these words: “DELILAH COMING SOON” Fans have already begun speculating if this is going to be a spin-off series to Greenleaf.
It seems the fans were right! The news of a spin-off was announced on Twitter with a short video. OWN’s teaser reads: “We told you never to lose faith. Prayers have been answered. A spin-off is in the works. Let the church say amen!” So fans can be pretty sure that it is definitely happening. However, as of yet, the exact release date of the series has not been announced.
