These short stories are a collection of series set in the Death Note universe, written by the series’ authors, and will be released this year!

Last year, Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata surprised fans by releasing a fresh narrative set after the events of the original Death Note, which explored how a new protagonist might react to receiving the Death Note after all of the shocks Light Yagami caused during his time as Kira.

The manga, which will be released in English, asks, “Is Kira’s story truly done, or does his effect linger?” The complete series, which includes other stories such as the Death Note pilot chapter, “C-Kira,” and vignettes from L’s life, is written entirely by the creators of the legendary manga series. Death Note Short Stories is a must-have for Death Note fans and those interested in learning more about the story.

When Is the Manga Releasing?

The “a-Kira” one-shot, is set a year after the prequel of the original manga was released in February 2020 by Death Note creators Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. Death Note Short Stories, a planned publication from Viz Media, will include the popular one-shot and more stories.

Viz Media revealed during New York Comic-Con that the new collection will be publicly launched in Summer 2022, allowing fans from all over the world to enjoy these Death Note short stories.

Death Note Short Stories is described as such by Viz Media “The Death Note’s story is ended, but Kira’s is not… The significance and legacy of the legendary Death Note are explored in this fascinating collection of short stories by the manga’s authors. Summer 2022 release!”

As previously stated, this includes the new one-shot created by the creators as an official sequel, which introduced a new main character to Ryuk and the Death Note, as well as a whole new way to use the notebook that caused so many problems in the original series. Last year, the two creators also discussed their thoughts on the new short story collection.

What Are the Death Note Short Stories About?

Surprisingly, the renowned Death Note manga series has been unfinished in English for years. This collection of short stories was finished in 2003, but it was only recently translated into English for Death Note enthusiasts in the United States.

The short stories are prequels and successors to the original series, and they expand on the Shinigami universe and their strange relationship with humanity. On the other hand, the legends don’t go into much detail about other topics, like the Shinigami’s ongoing fixation with apples, which they adore so much that they’re a prized commodity in Death’s realm.

Death Note Short Stories is a collection of short manga stories written by Ohba and illustrated by Obata, and published and localized in English by VIZ Media. Akira Shiwawa‘s translations of “Death Note Four-Panel Comics” and “Taro Kagami” (both featured in Death Note 13: How to Read) include letters by Gia Cam Luc. All additional content in the manga is also translated by Stephen Paul, with James Gaubatz‘s lettering and touch-up art.

These Short Stories have a lot of appeals because it is a compilation of short manga stories written by the series’ writers that add a lot to the universe of the original manga. Ohba used it to study how the Death Note’s dark impact had irreversibly changed people’s lives.

Death Note Short Stories accomplishes two goals: it is both thrilling and entertaining to read. To begin with, it contributes to Light Yagami’s story by demonstrating how his time as Kira reverberates both in the human world and with Ryuk. Second, it fleshes out new and old characters in such a way that it demonstrates that the Death Note and its existence will endure long after Light, even if no one will ever match Kira’s brilliance.

With the “C-Kira,” we will learn about a new Kira’s plan to kill everyone over the age of 60 in Japan while trying to get attention. The whole world will witness how the Kira story is still alive and well in Japan, the major aspect of all this shows how the legend of Kira is still alive and well in the United States. The manga also put influenced Near and L.

In “a-Kira,” we get an opportunity to revisit Death Note in a modern context. We watch world leaders compete for ownership of the Death Note, Ryuk resurrects another human, and we learn that people who possess the notebook will only experience misery.

We also receive short comics to bring humor to the collection, in addition to the well-done and related one-shots. However, it is not recommended for those who are unfamiliar with manga or anime. It’s not necessarily a bad thing; it simply indicates that these are for some targeted fans

Death Note fans have been waiting for this to happen for a long time.

What’s the Original Death Note About?

Even though most of you are familiar with this fantastic series, Death Note is incomplete without remembering Light’s God complex.

Light Yagami, an idealistic and clever young man, finds a book called “Death Note” on the ground one day. When Light picks it up, he is greeted by Ryuk, a monstrous-looking creature that belongs to the Shinigami, a race of grim reapers who have the power to select when humans die. Light discovers that the Death Note also grants him this ability, and he may now kill anyone by merely putting their name in the notebook.

Light begins by assassinating well-known criminals, but his righteous effort to finally get rid of evil eventually draws the attention of the government and the brilliant private detective known simply as “L.”

Death Note is Ohba and Obata’s most well-known creation. The supernatural thriller was published in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2003 to 2006, and One-Punch Man animation company Madhouse successfully converted it into a hit anime series in 2009. The anime and manga were both huge successes, with the manga selling more than 50 million copies worldwide.

The series became a worldwide cultural phenomenon, and schools in various countries moved to outlaw it, claiming incidents in which children constructed their own Death Notes by putting down the names of peers and teachers whom they wished ill on. In 2017, a live-action Netflix original movie starring Nat Wolff, Lakeith Stanfield, and Willem Dafoe was released based on the series.

Given the film’s unfavorable reviews, Netflix is still developing a sequel, with Mortal Kombat (2021) writer Greg Russo committed to the project.

Whatever the reviews, the announcement of Death Note short stories will give the Death note fans a huge treat in the Shinigami world. So, while waiting for it to happen let’s remember the great KAMI through the trailer of Death Note anime.
