When will Cobra Kai season 3 be released and what can fans expect? The next season of YouTube’s continuation of The Karate Kid story escalated the rivalry between Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio). In Cobra Kai season 2, Daniel opened his own karate dojo, Miyagi-Do, to prevent Cobra Kai’s influence from spreading across the San Fernando Valley.
Cobra Kai Season 1 surprised fans with a much better TV series than expected; it capitalized on nostalgia for The Karate Kid movies and wove clever callbacks during the summer season, but YouTube’s series also generated endearing new young characters, such as Miguel (Xolo Maridueña), Johnny’s prize student, and Samantha (Mary Mouser), Daniel’s daughter. Meanwhile, Johnny’s estranged son Robby (Tanner Buchanan) not only became Daniel’s pupil, but he also came to live with Daniel and started dating Sam, forming a love triangle with Miguel, who is Sam’s ex-boyfriend. Cobra Kai season 1 concluded with Miguel winning the All-Valley Karate Championship, but Johnny was in for a nasty surprise if his old sensei John Kreese (Martin Kove) suddenly re-entered his lifetime.

Cobra Kai Season 3 Release Date
Cobra Kai has been renewed for season 3, and was initially planned to premiere in 2020. However, thanks to it moving to a new streaming service in Netflix, Cobra Kai season 3 ended up bumped forwards into 2021 to ensure the streaming giant could have the time to introduce its contributors to seasons 1 and 2, that are currently available. Season 3 will finally premiere on January 8, 2021.
Cobra Kai season 3 cast
We all know for a fact Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), and Miguel (Xolo Maridueña) will return — and there are some loose threads from past seasons which could mean we can anticipate some older buddies to look again, also.
Johnny’s son Robby Keen, for example, spent the previous two seasons training beneath LaRusso, but he fled after putting Miguel on life support. There is no verification on when we’ll see him again. Miguel’s mother Carmen (Vanessa Rubio) also appeared briefly in season 2 as Johnny’s love interest — may be that will reestablish and Johnny will gain some sense of equilibrium?
While Netflix is keeping hush about returning characters, John Kreese has also been verified to reappear. The big bad is now running things in the Cobra Kai dojo after stealing it in that shocking season 2 finale.
Cobra Kai season 3 Plot
There have been quite a few cliffhangers at the end of season 2 that still need to be solved. The very first point to expect out of season 3 is that there’ll be a bit of a time jump. In an interview with Collider, William Zabka mentioned Johnny was not in a fantastic area when last season ended. Because of this, the new season will pick up time in the future, when we will get to learn how all of that stress has impacted Johnny.
Another major development after season 2 involved the wellbeing of Miguel (Xolo Maridueña) after a struggle that broke out at college finished with him being thrown off a balcony. Miguel was put on life support, but contemplating actor Xolo Maridueña has confirmed he has filmed scenes for season 3, it is clear that he makes it out all right. What remains to be seen is whether he’ll be in good enough shape to continue training, or if he’ll be relegated to the sidelines.
There is a lot for season 3 to wrap up, but you can bet a lot more drama will be introduced to pave the way for the final season. Seasons 1 and 2 of Cobra Kai are currently streaming on Netflix, and you can watch all episodes of season 3 when they are released on January 8th, 2021.
