American actress, producer and author Candace Cameron-Bure is widely known for her character DJ in Full House. But why are we talking about this right now? because there is a story behind this particular role which was untold. To put it simply, Candace was not only the actress who auditioned for the role. There is one more actress from the show who originally auditioned for the role. The role intends to play the oldest daughter of Danny Tanner (Bob Saget), DJ. She is the one who was more serious than her younger siblings. She did well in school and was for the most part responsible. This is just in contrast with her best friend, Kimmy Gibbler, who was more of a wild child.
Full House was popular for its saccharine-sweet stories with life lessons and hugs at the end of every episode. It had many primary and additional characters. One of the essential to the show was of Andrea Barber’s Kimmy who appeared in the majority of the episodes as DJ’s best friend. Contract to DJ, Kimmy was excited filled with energy with a bold personality in her colourful outfits.
Cameron-Bure’s experience and Barber’s potential
But at the very first time, Barber came in to audition for Full House, she tried for the part of DJ instead of Kimmy. Eventually, the producers wanted Cameron-Bure for the character of eldest Tanner sister. Ere performing in the ABC sitcom, Cameron-Bure had a series of guest-starring performances in other displays such as St. Elsewhere, Growing Pains, Who’s the Boss.
This simply made Cameron-Bure a better fit to portray Dj. The heading of some of the news reports suggests that team of Full House saw potential in Barber and asked her to return and read for the role. Barber appeared in 146 episodes. While on the other hand, her appearance was supposed to be for only one episode. The fun vibe of the character was loved and they expanded her role.
After a long break from acting, Barber later reprised the role of Kimmy for the Netflix spin-off sequel Fuller House.
