Amidst the doom and gloom of their scenario playing out across many theatres around the world, the movie Birds Of Prey managed to achieve a modest accomplishment by finally crossing their box office collection to 200 million dollars. The movie also scored the record thanks to finally being able to open in the Japanese theatres as well, where it earned 2.09 million dollars at the box office in that country.
It is hardly an inspiring box office figure, but now considering the small budget on which the whole movie was made, it should be enough for it to recover their money when it was coupled with the film’s early VOD release. With coming to Japan so far-seeing relatively fewer cases of Corona-Virus, the Japanese people are still going to the theatres, and the movie has managed to cash in on that opportunity.
The journey of the movie from their release has been quite a good one. After their previous box office success Suicide Squad, the character of Harley Quinn which was played by the actress Margot Robbie was considered the breakout star of the movie. Soon, after she made a deal with Warner Bros. productions to produce the standalone Harley Quinn, a feature that evolved into the Birds Of Prey under the director of Cathy Yan.
The movie was even critically acclaimed upon their debut, with their movie reviewers praising their dazzling fight choreography between the main characters. But despite the high and good ratings, the film failed to draw the attention of the big audience to the theatres.
Many reasons were put forth for the lack of enthusiasm on the part of the viewers. The marketing for the film was considered lackluster, this also left many audiences and viewers unaware that the movie was in the theatres and it had received stellar reviews.
