The coronavirus has spread so rapidly and intensely that people from all the sectors are taking leave mostly and at times of emergency they are just doing work from home. This is no different for film and series industry. One such film that has canceled it’s shooting is Avatar 2.
Words from the producer about the delay :
James Cameron has scheduled to shoot Avatar 2 at Stone Street Studios in Wellington, New Zealand next month. But it was canceled out fearing to corona outburst. Producer Jon Landau has said that that shooting is delayed. But Wellington-based VFX company Weta Digital will be continuing their work in the meantime. He said that they had plans to come down Friday night with a group of people and start back up. They made this decision to hold off and continue working in Los Angeles and later come to Wellington and do their scheduled works. He further said that all are in the middle of a global crisis and this is not just about the film industry. So he felt like everybody needs to do whatever they can do to flatten the curve. He concluded saying that he along with the director James Cameron monitor and look at all the things and think about what is in the best interest of their crew. as they are the paramount them above anything. He termed them as Avatar family.
Avatar movies are going to hit one by one :
After many hiatus in between, James Cameron has set up things to release the sequel of Avatar on December 21 of 2021 if everything goes according to schedule. But if the Corona troubles for more time then it will be pushed far from it’s expected release. Not just Avatar 2 but James Cameron has planned for three additional sequels are slated every other year thereafter in December 2023, December 2025 and December 2027. All these four movies are planned with a budget of around 1 billion dollars. So it is indeed going to an Avatar decade for the fans out there.
