Early Life and Career Beginnings
Cara Jocelyn Delevingne was born on August 12, 1992, in Hammersmith, London, England. Pandora Anne (née Stevens) and Charles Hamar Delevingne, a property developer, are her parents. She grew up in London’s Belgravia neighborhood with her two older sisters, Chloe and Poppy.

Alex Jaffe is her paternal half-brother. She attended Francis Holland School for Girls and Bedales School in Steep, Hampshire, before dropping out at the age of 17 to follow in the footsteps of her sister Poppy and pursue a modeling career. She began working for Storm Management in 2009. Her early modeling years, however, were far from easy.
Delevingne got her first big break while working part-time in the office of a fashion website. Christopher Bailey of Burberry noticed her and cast her in the brand’s spring/summer 2011 campaign. During the 2012 season, Delevingne walked in nine New York Fashion Week shows for designers such as Jason Wu, Rag & Bone, Thakoon, Donna Karan, Tory Burch, and Oscar de la Renta.
She then walked exclusively for Burberry during London Fashion Week, Milan Fashion Week, where she walked in six shows for Fendi, Trussardi, Moschino, Blumarine, DSquared2, and Dolce & Gabbana; and Paris Fashion Week, where she walked in seven shows for Nina Ricci, Sonia Rykiel, Cacharel, Stella McCartney, Paul & Joe, Kenzo, and Chanel.
This is largely regarded as Delevingne’s breakout season, and after walking in more than 20 shows during Fashion Month in 2012, she began to attract increasing media attention. Vogue Magazine called her their “crush of the season,” The Daily Telegraph called her “The girl of the season,” and Karl Lagerfeld praised her in an interview with Elle following the Chanel show in Paris.
Delevingne was the new darling of the fashion business by the time the following Fashion Month began in September 2012. She walked in nearly 50 shows in New York, London, Milan, and Paris throughout that month. Her busiest seasons are the two international catwalk seasons. Delevingne began to reduce her catwalk presence in 2015, being choosier and participating in fewer shows. Many thought that this was due to an increase in her acting job, but she stated to Time magazine in an essay that it was an intentional decision on her side to spend more time doing the “things I love” and welcome new, other chances.
Delevingne made her acting debut in the 2012 film adaption of “Anna Karenina.” She took on the role of Princess Sorokina. She subsequently made her television debut in June 2014, on the final episode of “Playhouse Presents,” a series of self-contained TV plays. She has since appeared in a number of films, including the British psychological thriller “The Face of an Angel” with Daniel Bruhl and Kate Beckinsale, the Chanel short film “Reincarnation” with Pharrell Williams and Geraldine Chaplin, the film adaptation of John Green’s novel “Paper Towns” in 2015, as the lead character Margo Roth Spiegelman; the fantasy film “Pan” (2015), the DC comic-based action film “Suicide Squad” (2016); and the British coming (2016).
The DC comic-based action picture “Suicide Squad” (2016); the British coming-of-age drama “Kids in Love” (2016); “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” (2017) starring Dane DeHaan and Rihanna; the historical romance “Tulip Fever” (2017); and the mystery thriller “London Fields” (2018).
