Why Was Agent Carter Season 3 Cancelled?

The second TV spin off of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Agent Carter. Set in 1946, Agent Carter acts like a bridge between the past and present storylines of MCU. The series revolves around a SSR agent, Peggy Carter who works alongside Howard Stark and Jarvis family to create a new intelligence agency, which will later be called as S.H.I.E.L.D.


Despite being loved by the audiences, the average ratings acquired by the show led to the cancelling of the show. There was a massive drop in the viewership in the second season of Agent Carter.

Why Was Agent Carter Season 3 Cancelled?

The show was already not getting much views in the first season itself, it dropped even more in the second season. Agent Carter was loved by many viewers but the quantity seemed less. This led to the show being cancelled. There is a lot of material available, the fans were curious to know more about the main character, Peggy Carter.

Actress Hayley Atwell in The AV Club interview mentioned, “It’s a shame the network cancelled it and wanted to put me in something mainstream”.

There are many petitions and campaigns started on the internet to bring her back. The Marvel Cinematic Universe didn’t want it to end. The cancellation is related to the network and the ratings.

Predictions For  Agent Carter Season 3

We are hoping for a miraculous update on a new season but until then, we can only predict what could have happened in Season 3 of Agent Carter.

The show’s producer, Jose Molina shares in an interview regarding the future plans for the show, 

If memory serves, the initial thrust was going to come from the investigation into the assassination attempt on Jack Thompson. We were hoping that the story would then lead us to London, where we would learn that Peggy’s late brother Michael was not only alive and kicking, but involved in some very nefarious, super-villainous shenanigans.”

Fans Reaction To The Cancellation of Agent Carter Season 3

The cancellation of the third season of Agent Carter came as a shock to many fans. A campaign started out to try and get Netflix, which is home to many marvel comic stories, to pick up the show for its third season. This petition crossed over 130K signatures. The actress, Haley Atwell is also ready to do anything it takes to make the third season a reality.

Are There Any Hopes For Season 3 Of Agent Carter?

Agent Carter, a well-written woman lead show got a lot of appreciation from the fans and critics as well. However it did not draw in a lot of views overall. Hence it did not last long on a broadcasting network. 

As fans, we can only hope that the streaming platforms such as Disney+ or Netflix would take over the series and a possibility of a third season could emerge.

Where Can I Watch The First Two Seasons of Agent Carter?

The first two seasons of Agent Carter are available on online streaming platform, Disney +. There are 18 episodes of 43 minutes each in every season.

Peggy Carter, the main character of Agent Carter is truly loved by many. We hope to see her come back on the screens. It’s sad to see the show being cancelled but as of now we can only wish for the revival of the third season.
